Syrian authorities have imposed restrictions on the entry of Lebanese nationals into Syria, two security sources told AFP on Friday.

 

A military source indicated that the decision follows skirmishes between the Lebanese army and armed Syrians along the border, according to AFP.

 

Meanwhile, the head of Lebanon's General Security overseeing border crossings stated that the agency had not received any official notification of the new measures from Syrian authorities but was surprised to find the border closed to Lebanese nationals.

 

A Lebanese military source speculated that Syria’s move may be a protest response after the Lebanese army arrested and later released several Syrian gunmen.
