TikTok will not disappear from platforms - expert

Jordan News

AMMAN — It is unlikely that TikTok’s app will disappear as a social media platform, despite calls by the FCC commissioner on Android and Apple to remove it from their app stores, Jordanian cybersecurity expert Majdi Al-Qabaleen said, according to Khabrni News.

In the US, Federal Communications Commission chief Brendan Carr called on both Apple and Google to delete TikTok from their respective app stores, on grounds that the video-sharing app is a “sophisticated surveillance tool” for the Chinese government.

Carr gave both companies until July 8 to respond, but it was not immediately clear what measures FCC will undertake if both firms did not comply.

Qabaleen said the information is not definite. But he noted that there are several researches on the data privacy and reverse engineering of TikTok, which pointed to the app being a spy tool, especially since it uses advanced algorithms to analyze users' data.

He said he did not believe that the app will be deleted at the moment. He explained that if it were to be deleted, it would not be uninstalled from the users’ phones who already have it installed.
