AMMAN — HRH Princess Basma Bint Ali, chairperson of the board of trustees of the Hashemite Fund for the Development of the Jordan Badia and President of the Royal Botanical Garden, on Thursday attended the opening of the Al Ahliyya Amman University (AAU) Conference titled “Food Security in Jordan: Reality and Future Outlook.” Princess Basma also inaugurated a new building for the university’s Agricultural Technology College on Thursday.
The college offers an innovative programme for bachelor’s degrees in agricultural biotechnology and gene engineering, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Dean of Faculty for Agricultural Technology Rida Khawaldeh said that food security is the basis for the safety of societies, pointing out that Jordan, as a developing country, suffers from various environmental and economic challenges such as water scarcity, climate change and high transport costs, which are reflected in the food security crisis.
