Planning minister meets outgoing Japanese ambassador

AMMAN — Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Wissam Rabadi on Thursday met outgoing Japanese Ambassador in Amman Hidenao Yanagi, according to a ministry’s statement. 
 
Rabadi expressed thanks for the diplomat's efforts during his service in Jordan, voicing appreciation for his country’s continued support for the Kingdom.
 
He lauded Japan’s understanding of the economic and social challenges facing Jordan as of the repercussions of the regional crises.
 
The Japanese ambassador highlighted the “strong” Jordanian-Japanese partnership, stressing Japan's continued keenness to provide support to Jordan to maintain its economic resilience, security and stability amid these hard circumstances, especially during COVID-19 crisis.
 
From 2009 to September 2020, Japan provided Jordan with approximately $1.7 billion, including $12.603 million as grants for projects and budget support, while the rest as soft loans, in addition to technical assistance provided to Jordan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
