AMMAN — The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO) on Saturday registered the palace of His Majesty the late King Abdullah I, the Founding King, on the ALECSO List of Architectural and Urban Heritage in Arab Countries for 2025, in recognition of its prominent historical and architectural value and its role in embodying Jordan’s national identity.
The announcement came during the 27th Arab Conference on Archaeology and Cultural Heritage in the Arab World, organised by ALECSO in Doha, under the title: "Cultural Heritage Sustainability: Challenges and Future Strategies," the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Jordan was represented at the conference by Director-General of the Department of Antiquities Fawzi Abu Danneh who delivered a presentation titled: "The Jordanian Experience in Protecting and Preserving Cultural Heritage."
He referred to the national efforts in the fields of restoration, digital documentation, regional and international cooperation in safeguarding archaeological sites, and tangible and intangible cultural heritage.
Abu Danneh pointed out that Jordan is considered a pioneering country in the region in the field of cultural heritage preservation, reviewing successful experiences in combating the trafficking of antiquities, alongside awareness initiatives aimed at local communities to raise awareness of the value of national heritage.
He received the certificate of registration for the Founder’s Palace on the ALECSO List of Architectural and Urban Heritage, in appreciation of Jordan's distinguished contributions to preserving cultural and architectural heritage in the Arab world.
Jordan’s participation and presentation garnered wide interest from attendees, who commended the integrated Jordanian model in heritage management and protection.
