Foreign Ministry probes detention of Jordanian students in Russia over alleged forged papers
The Jordan Times
AMMAN — Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Sufian Qudah said on Thursday that the ministry is following up, through its operations centre, on reports circulating on social media regarding the detention of four Jordanian students studying at a university in Russia.
In a statement, Qudah noted that the centre is handling the matter in coordination with the Jordanian embassy in Moscow.
Preliminary information indicates that the students were detained for allegedly obtaining forged academic documents through an individual of a non-Jordanian nationality residing in Russia.
Russian authorities have confirmed to the embassy that the person responsible for forging the certificates had been arrested.
Qudah stressed that the case is still under investigation and that the ministry’s operations centre and the Jordanian embassy remain in contact with the students’ families.
He highlighted that the ministry is closely following the matter until their release is secured.
