Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib revealed that former Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, who was assassinated by “Israel” in September, had agreed to a 21-day ceasefire just days before his death.
Bou Habib said that Lebanon had consented to the ceasefire with “Israel” in consultation with Hezbollah, facilitated through Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri.
“He [Nasrallah] agreed, he agreed,” Bou Habib told Christiane Amanpour’s CNN in an interview on Tuesday.
"We informed the Americans and the French of the agreement," Bou Habib said, "and they told us that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had also accepted the proposal."
He noted that U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein was set to visit Lebanon to negotiate the ceasefire.
"We were told Netanyahu agreed, so we got Hezbollah's approval. We need U.S. assistance, and I don't believe there is an alternative," he added.
Since September 23, “Israel” has launched its most extensive assault on Lebanon in over a decade.
The strikes, which continue amidst escalating tensions with Hezbollah, have resulted in more than 1,100 deaths, including children and women, over 3,000 injuries, and the displacement of more than 1.2 million people, according to Lebanese authorities.
