"Various youth movements, unions, and Palestinian factions have called for a general strike to demand a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The call comes in the aftermath of the United Nations Security Council's failure to pass a resolution demanding a ceasefire in Gaza, following the United States' use of its veto power.

The General Union of Palestinian Transport Workers has urged global solidarity among workers worldwide, especially those in the transportation sector, and are calling for protests until the aggression against Gaza comes to a halt.

In response, Fatah Movement in the West Bank and Jerusalem issued a statement, saying, “In rejection of the American veto and in harmony with the global call for a general strike, we invite you to a general strike in all sectors on Monday, December 11, 2023, to demand an end to the aggression against the Gaza Strip.”

The Fatah Movement emphasised that the global strike affirms the rejection of American hegemony and stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The Palestinian Teachers' Union has also announced a general strike, including the suspension of classes in all Palestinian schools, educational directorates, and the Ministry of Education on Monday, December 11, 2023.

The union asserts that the strike aims to protest the ongoing aggression on both Gaza and the West Bank, rejecting the American veto, and aligning with the international call for a general strike and a demand for an end to the aggression.

National and Islamic forces in Jerusalem have also called for a general strike 'in rejection of the American veto and in harmony with the global call for a general strike to demand a halt to the aggression on Gaza.' Additionally, they have called for vigilance in Jerusalem and at Al-Aqsa Mosque to defend it against the attacks of extremist settlers."
