AMMAN — Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania Maria Magdalena Grigore on Thursday discussed means of furthering bilateral cooperation and the latest regional developments, topped by the Palestinian cause.

During the meeting, the top officials reviewed steps taken to bolster cooperation in the economic, investment and education fields, a Foreign Ministry statement said.

Safadi stressed that the sole path to comprehensive peace is through resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of a two-state solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

For Jordan, Jerusalem is the key to peace, Safadi said, reaffirming the Kingdom’s rejection of any decision that recognises Jerusalem as a capital for Israel, which violates international law and undermines all efforts towards solving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Grigore stressed her country’s commitment to Bucharest’s historical stance and the EU’s position towards the Palestinian cause in support of the two-state solution, emphasising that Romania will not relocate its embassy to Jerusalem.

She also valued the Kingdom’s “vital” role in bolstering regional security and stability, highlighting the importance of the Aqaba meetings and their role in establishing a holistic approach to counter terrorism.
