Culture Ministry renews call for contributions to ‘Stories from Jordan’ platform

AMMAN — The Ministry of Culture has renewed its call for participation in the “Stories from Jordan” platform, an initiative dedicated to documenting the Jordanian national narrative.

Launched in early March, the platform aims to enhance community participation in preserving Jordan’s history and cultural heritage by encouraging people to share stories and experiences linked to the Kingdom’s past, traditions and cultural legacy.

Speaking to Al Mamlaka TV on Saturday, the ministry’s media director Ibrahim Ameri described the platform as a national project for documenting Jordanian memory and identity across its social, cultural and political dimensions.

He urged citizens to contribute by sharing personal stories and experiences connected to Jordan’s history and heritage.

Ameri said that the platform stems from the broader “Jordanian Narrative” project, which is launched under the directives of HRH Crown Prince Hussein, with the aim of documenting Jordan’s history and the experiences of its people through a scientific and systematic approach, away from fragmented narratives.

He pointed out that the project seeks to create a “unified national memory” reflecting daily life and the human stories that have shaped Jordanian identity over the decades, stressing that history extends beyond official books and archives to include lived experiences, folk tales and oral histories.

Ameri noted that participation in the platform is open to all Jordanians regardless of age, adding that “the only age requirement is the age of the story itself.” Participants can upload written stories, audio recordings, videos and photographs.

He added that the ministry aims to document the small details that form an essential part of the national narrative, including folk tales, traditional chants, Nabataean poetry, family memories and stories linked to places and everyday life.

According to Ameri, all submissions are reviewed by a specialised committee of academics and experts in documentation and history to ensure a balance between respecting oral memory and verifying historical and scientific accuracy.

He also said that the platform could eventually support cultural and creative industries, including drama, films and novels, noting that “many major art works began as simple and spontaneous stories lived by ordinary people.”

Ameri stressed the platform’s potential role in promoting cultural tourism by presenting the “narrative of place” and connecting Jordanian sites with their human and historical stories, thereby enhancing their cultural and tourism appeal.
