AMMAN —  The Tourism Ministry on Saturday announced the launch of a special operations centre to follow up on issues related to the tourism sector.

The move, in compliance with recent government measures and decisions, aims at coordinating efforts to address the growing global coronavirus crisis.

Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism Emad Hijazeen noted that the ministry has issued a circular closing all of the Kingdom's archaeological sites for a week with aim of carrying out a sterilisation campaign against the novel coronavirus, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The team in the operations centre will work around the clock to provide support for the public and the tourism sector, according to the ministry.

For assistance, the ministry called on citizens and visitors to contact the special operations room’s line at 06/4603347, fax at 4645982 or 4615230, mobile at 0796217700 or email at tourismOPS@mota.gov.jo.

Tourism Minister Majd Shweikeh also recently ordered the formation of a specialised media committee to address the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The ministry has also called on tourism societies to instruct their members who have interacted directly with tourists from countries that have confirmed coronavirus cases to head to Al Bashir Hospital or other accredited labs to perform coronavirus tests, Petra said.
