AMMAN — A handover ceremony for the “Read Japan” Project was held on Thursday at Al Hussein Technical University (HTU), in the presence of Japanese Ambassador to Jordan Asari Hideki, HTU President Ismail Hinti, faculty members, and representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Jordan.

The "Read Japan" Project aims to provide readers around the world with a deeper and more accurate understanding of Japan through the donation of distinguished English-language books, according to a statement from HTU.

While primarily targeting young researchers with an interest in Japan, the initiative also reaches out to opinion leaders and intellectuals from various academic fields.

The project promotes knowledge and cultural exchange by donating carefully selected collections to libraries and research institutions globally.

Supported by the Nippon Foundation and implemented by the Tokyo Foundation, the initiative has donated books to five institutions in Jordan since its launch in 2009, with HTU being the sixth recipient.

In his remarks, the Japanese ambassador expressed hope that the donation of 129 books would enrich the knowledge of HTU students and faculty and deepen their understanding of Japan’s culture and society.

The diplomat also commended HTU’s role in fostering academic and cultural ties between the two friendly nations.

Hinti thanked the Japanese side for the donation and reiterated the university’s commitment to boosting international partnerships and promoting cultural awareness.

The event marked another milestone in the growing cultural and academic cooperation between Jordan and Japan and reflected the ongoing support of the Japanese embassy for educational initiatives that foster mutual understanding and people-to-people exchange.
