AMMAN — Minister of Government Communications Mohammad Momani on Sunday underlined the importance of bolstering youth participation in public life and equipping them with the tools for awareness and positive influence amidst rapid media and digital shifts.
During a meeting in Ajloun with a group of young leaders at the Centre for Sustainable Development Brokers, Momani said that youth are genuine partners in the nation’s political modernisation and the shaping of its future, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He noted that the youth segment remains a priority for His Majesty King Abdullah and HRH Crown Prince Hussein, describing young Jordanians as the "first line of defence" against digital misinformation.
The minister pointed out that the recent graduation of the first cohort of National Service conscripts reflects the state's commitment to empowering youth and enhancing their involvement in national efforts, ensuring their readiness to participate across various national tracks.
Momani stressed that the government is keen on maintaining a continuous dialogue with young people to understand their priorities, thereby enabling the formulation of more grounded policies.
He added that increasing youth involvement in decision-making is a fundamental pillar for ensuring the sustainability and efficiency of national policies.
The ministry is currently developing effective communication tools for the youth, primarily media and information literacy programmes. These initiatives aim to foster a critical and responsible consciousness, enabling young people to navigate digital content with awareness, the minister said.
Momani highlighted that the fast-paced digital environment has introduced new challenges, with media now playing a decisive role in shaping public opinion.
This reality, he said, necessitates heightened media professionalism to counter misinformation, rumours, and hate speech.
The spokesperson commended the centre for its qualitative initiatives, including the "Sawt Ajloun" (Voice of Ajloun) radio station, for supporting community media and strengthening the role of local press in serving society.
Momani also said that the government relies on the youth to engage consciously with public issues and contribute to national awareness, volunteerism, and the spirit of initiative.
For their part, the centre’s organisers briefed the minister on key projects in sustainable development and youth empowerment, affirming their continued commitment to providing platforms for dialogue, capacity building, and community participation.
Established in 2016 as a youth initiative in Ajloun, the Brokers of Change Centre for Sustainable Development implements programmes focused on innovation and social justice. The centre has supported approximately 60 projects, organised nearly 100 dialogue sessions, and built a network connecting over 1,000 local and national entities.
