Putin, Abbas meet to talk Middle East crisis

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Tuesday that the United Nations has failed to issue a single actionable resolution to address the Gaza crisis, attributing this failure to the United States.

In a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Abbas emphasized that the Palestinian people must not be displaced.

Abbas briefed Putin on the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, describing the ongoing aggression against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

This aggression, he noted, targets unarmed civilians—children, women, and the elderly—destroys infrastructure, and involves a campaign of starvation.

Abbas reiterated the Palestinian call for an immediate and urgent ceasefire to prevent further bloodshed of innocent civilians and demanded a complete “Israeli” withdrawal from Gaza.

He also stressed the need to halt the ongoing attacks in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the dangerous incursions into Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

Additionally, Abbas called for an end to what he said is the “strangulation of the Palestinian economy”, the release of Palestinian tax revenues, and a return to a political horizon based on international legitimacy and a two-state solution to end the occupation of Palestine and realize its independence with East Jerusalem as its capital.
