Queen Rania criticizes Western double standards on Gaza aggression

Her Majesty Queen Rania criticized the Western double standards regarding the Israeli Occupation aggression on Gaza, stating they have led to a "loss of trust in ethical norms that we once believed governed our world."

In her speech at the 50th Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio, Italy, attended by global decision-makers, intellectuals, and media representatives, Queen Rania said, "The world deserves a global system they can trust—free from bias, moral gaps, and blind spots."

She highlighted that many view the aggression on Gaza as a stark example of double standards or even a complete abandonment of ethical norms.

The Queen pointed out the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, with nearly all residents facing acute food insecurity and Palestinian children suffering from starvation, as Tel Aviv restricts humanitarian aid access.

Queen Rania also emphasized the extensive losses caused by the war, including the amputation of limbs from thousands of children. According to Save the Children, over 20,000 children are estimated to have been lost, detained, or buried under rubble.

She questioned whether the world expects any Western nation to endure similar suffering under occupation and violence, criticizing the international community for its perceived tolerance of injustice in Palestine.

The Queen asked, "Does the world believe that Israel's security is more important than that of any other nation, allowing any actions to be justified in pursuit of that security?"

She described the devaluation of Palestinian lives as "racism" and condemned the selective application of international humanitarian law as a "new era of global dysfunction."

Queen Rania urged the rejection of double standards, demanding accountability and advocating for a common path to peace for both Palestinians and “Israelis”.

She proposed several fundamental principles for lasting and fair peace, emphasizing that international law must be upheld without exception and that peace cannot be achieved by imposing unequal terms on the weaker party.

She stressed the need for mutual security and accountability, warning that a lack of accountability makes discussions about law and human rights meaningless.

Queen Rania concluded that the approach of ensuring safety for one side by denying it to the other is unsustainable.

She called for banning extremist voices from dialogue and stressed that the future should not be dictated by those advocating for severe measures like famine and mass displacement.

Participants at this year's forum included Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and the Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell.
