Prime Minister Khasawneh highlights elections as political update path

Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh described the parliamentary elections as a path for political modernization and urged all Jordanians to participate.
 
Speaking after casting his vote at Taisir Thubyan Secondary School for Boys in the Umm Uthaina area of Amman, within the second district, he emphasized that Election Day is a crucial constitutional duty.
 
 
Khasawneh expressed hope for a high voter turnout that reflects the significance of the national occasion. He encouraged young people to actively engage in the electoral process, asserting that Jordan is a strong and confident nation with resilient citizens and institutions.
 
He added that Jordan is navigating challenges with stability and determination.

On Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2024, 5,115,219 eligible Jordanians are heading to the polls to elect members of the 20th House of Representatives. The elections, overseen by the Independent Election Commission, feature 1,634 candidates—697 for party lists and 937 for local districts.
 
The executive branch's role is limited to logistical and security support, while the IEC manages all stages of the election process.
 
A total of 172 lists are running for local districts and 25 for party-based general districts. There are 1,649 polling and counting centers across 18 electoral districts, in accordance with Election Law No. 4 of 2022.
