‘Israel’ UN envoy claims Hamas leaders “sole target” of Doha strike

‘Israel’s’ ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, addressed the U.N. Security Council on Thursday, defending recent airstrikes in Qatar that targeted Hamas leadership.

Danon claimed that ‘Israel’ carried out the strike against Hamas leaders who "directed attacks against Israel" that were planned from the "luxury confines of Doha."

He further claimed that these individuals were the "sole targets" of the attack, claiming they were not "legitimate politicians, diplomats, or or representatives."

The attack on Doha killed six people, including a Qatari security officer, and was condemned as a "blatant violation of all international laws and norms" by Qatar's Permanent Representative to the UN.

Qatar has hosted Hamas's political bureau since 2012 with Washington's blessing, and has been a key mediator in Gaza talks alongside Egypt and the United States.

Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani assured the UN Security Council that his country would continue its "diplomatic" role in mediating a ceasefire in Gaza.

"We will continue our humanitarian and diplomatic role without any hesitation, in order to stop the bloodshed," he told the UN body, after earlier suggesting a reassessment of his country's mediation efforts following the ‘Israeli’ strikes in Doha.
