The Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, arrived in Cairo on Friday evening, on his first visit to Egypt since the severing of diplomatic relations between the two countries in June 2017.

 

Egypt cut ties with Qatar that year, along with Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain, after Cairo accused Doha of backing the Muslim Brotherhood, which the Egyptian army ousted from power in 2013.

 

 The two countries resumed diplomatic ties in 2021.
