AMMAN — The Jordan Strategy Forum (JSF) on Tuesday highlighted the growing role of flexible and remote work arrangements in boosting productivity and reshaping labour markets.
In a recent paper titled Flexible Work and Productivity: Towards a More Efficient, Sustainable and Competitive Labour Market, the forum examined the structural shift towards flexible working patterns, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The paper assessed the global impact of this transition on productivity and labour market dynamics, and evaluated the suitability of flexible work arrangements across different economic sectors, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
According to the forum, flexible work improves work–life balance and enhances productivity, measured by output per hour worked, particularly in sectors where tasks are compatible with remote work, citing data from the European Commission.
To examine the relationship between flexible work and productivity, the forum analysed data from 34 European countries, comparing productivity levels with the prevalence of flexible work arrangements. The findings revealed a strong positive correlation, with a coefficient of 0.717, indicating that flexible and remote work is associated with higher productivity, while acknowledging the role of other influencing factors.
The study underscores the potential of flexible work to support a more efficient, sustainable and competitive labour market, reflecting broader global transformations in how work is organised and performed.
