Jordan News

AMMAN —The government has earmarked JD14 million for the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf Council, which falls under the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, in the 2023 general budget draft law, according to Al-Ghad News.

The allocation is in line with the Hashemite Custodianship of Al-Aqsa and the holy sites in Jerusalem, and underlines Jordan’s commitment to providing all means of care and support for these sites.

The Waqf Council follows up on the affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque, the endowment properties and related real estate in Jerusalem. It also follows up on the affairs of institutes, Sharia (Islamic law) colleges, high schools, schools and orphanages, as well as the affairs of the Islamic Museum and Islamic libraries in the Holy City.

The Jerusalem Waqf also monitors the Israeli attacks on properties in occupied East Jerusalem.

Some 900 employees, of whom 66 women, carry out all these tasks for the care of Al-Aqsa and the affairs of holy sites in Jerusalem.
