Rule of law is basic guarantee of human rights — King

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — His Majesty King Abdullah said that respecting and enforcing the law is the basic guarantee of the rights and freedoms of citizens, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
He made the remarks during a meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace on Sunday with Chairperson of the National Centre for Human Rights’ (NCHR) Board of Trustees Mohammad Bakhit, who presented to His Majesty a copy of the 2017 annual report of the centre on the human rights situation in the Kingdom.
The King stressed the need for the cooperation by all parties and institutions to carry out the recommendations and follow up the observations contained in the report, especially the points that have been repeated over the past years, in order to further enhance the human rights system, where the citizen is the pivot of interest.
The King voiced his appreciation for the NCHR's great role in protecting and promoting human rights in the Kingdom and also stressed the need to highlight Jordan's efforts in this field.
During the meeting, Bakhit reviewed the most prominent issues and challenges in connection to the human rights situation in the Kingdom tackled in the report, and the recommendations and actions required to strengthen the freedoms and human rights system.
Royal Hashemite Court Chief Yousef Issawi, Adviser to His Majesty and Director of the Office of His Majesty Manar Dabbas and Government Coordinator for Human Rights Basil Tarawneh attended the meeting.
