AMMAN — Sanad app Director Mohammad Battikhi on Saturday stressed that the digital ID on the app is now officially recognised after the amended Civil Status Law of 2026 was published in the Official Gazette.
Battikhi noted in a Facebook post that the law explicitly recognises digital IDs issued through applications approved by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, granting them the same legal validity as physical national ID cards for all purposes under Jordanian law, Al Mamlaka TV reported.
"In simple terms, your digital ID on Sanad now carries the same legal authority as the physical civil status card in your pocket," he said.
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship had previously announced that more than 2.6 million citizens have activated their digital IDs through the Sanad app, including over 600,000 new users since the beginning of 2026.
The ministry said that the figure reflects the growing reliance on digital government services and increasing public trust in the app, in line with directives from HRH Crown Prince Hussein and under the supervision of the National Council for Future Technology to provide citizens with a modern, secure and integrated digital government experience.
It also noted that the app has recently undergone a series of updates and enhancements aimed at simplifying procedures and accelerating access to services, making the user experience smoother, faster and more efficient.
Among the key features driving increased adoption is the ability to activate digital identities directly through the app without the need to visit Sanad service stations.
Additional services include updating phone numbers, electronically resetting passwords, enhancing the display of digital documents, enabling offline access to documents through fingerprint authentication, and linking documents to related services.
Under the amendment to Article 39 of the law, the digital ID is officially defined as the electronic version of the national ID card and is legally accepted for all procedures and transactions covered by existing legislation.
