King receives Holy See Secretary for Relations with States

His Majesty King Abdullah II received today, Monday, at Al-Husseiniya Palace, Holy See Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
 
His Majesty conveyed his greetings to His Holiness Pope Francis, affirming the deep and distinguished relations between Jordan and the Vatican.
 
The meeting addressed the serious developments in Gaza, with His Majesty emphasizing the importance of reaching a ceasefire and ensuring the delivery of aid in sufficient quantities through all possible means.
 
During the meeting, which was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, Chief Advisor for Religious and Cultural Affairs and Personal Envoy of His Majesty, His Majesty warned of the necessity of stopping “Israeli” violations and settlers' attacks on Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem, cautioning against any escalation of the situation there, which would have serious repercussions.
 
His Majesty called for the unity of Christian churches in preserving the historical and legal status quo in the Holy City.
 
On his part, the Holy See Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher commended Jordan's role in protecting and safeguarding the sanctities in Jerusalem within the framework of the Hashemite guardianship over them.
 
He expressed the Vatican's desire to contribute to efforts supporting the humanitarian response in Gaza and providing relief and medical assistance to the sector.
 
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Dr. Jafar Hassan, and the accompanying delegation of the Holy See Secretary for Relations with States Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.
