AMMAN — Royal Court Chief Youssef Issawi on Tuesday inaugurated the newly renovated Zarqa Municipal Park. 

 

The gesture coincided with a Royal visit to Zarqa, central region, to mark the silver anniversary of His Majesty King Abdullah's assumption of constitutional powers, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. 

 

The rehabilitation and development of the park came in response to Royal directives that had been issued during His Majesty's visits and meetings with the governorate's dignitaries and locals.

 

The park has been equipped with high-quality facilities and games that meet public safety standards for children, providing a recreational space for the residents of Zarqa. 

 

The expansion aimed to accommodate more visitors, especially in light of the increasing demand for parks in densely populated areas, in line with the region's population growth.

 

Issawi, who also heads the follow-up committee on the implementation of Royal initiatives, toured parts of the 10-dunnum park, which includes areas for children's games, areas for traditional folk games, outdoor seating areas, areas planted with trees, special tracks for people with special needs, walking paths and many other facilities.

 

The Royal initiatives, launched under the direct guidance of the King, focus on meeting the needs of various segments of the community, Issawi said, adding "This includes establishing and rehabilitating parks and gardens".

 

Issawi noted that these initiatives, which cover several vital sectors, are being implemented in cooperation with government and civil society institutions to promote sustainable development in local communities. 

 

Highlighting the importance of rehabilitating the park, which was originally established in the 1950s and holds a special place in the memories of the locals, Zarqa Mayor Imad Al Momani said that the spot serves as a recreational space for some 30,000 locals and those from neighbouring regions.
