King Felipe VI of Spain arrived in Amman on Saturday, on a two-day official visit to Jordan, during which he will meet with His Majesty King Abdullah II.
His Royal Highness Prince Feisal bin Al Hussein, the escort of honor, and a number of senior officials, as well as Jordan’s ambassador to Spain and Spain’s ambassador to Jordan were present at Queen Alia International Airport to welcome the Spanish monarch.
King Felipe VI decided at an earlier time to shorten his trip to Jordan, with Queen Letizia not participating due to the increasing regional tensions – according to “The Diplomat in Spain” news outlet.
The visit was originally planned to take place on Oct. 5, 6, and 7.
However, the Spanish Royal Household said that King Felipe VI will only travel accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, and that the visit will be shortened by one day and will conclude on Sunday.
This trip to Jordan is the first by King Felipe VI since his accession to the Throne ten years ago, and is part of the “good relations that both countries maintain” and is a “propitious opportunity to express the desire to continue strengthening the deep historical, political, cultural and human ties that exist between Jordan and Spain,” said the Royal House in a statement – cited by “The Diplomat in Spain”
