AMMAN — The number of participants in the "Urdun Jannah" (Our Jordan is paradise) programme since the beginning of this year until August 9 reached more than 86,000 participants, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
The programme was "temporarily" suspended in December 2024 and then resumed in April 2025.
The figures indicate the number of participants from the resumption of the programme in April until the beginning of August, where no participants were registered in the first three months of this year, as the numbers began in April, where 5,193 participants were registered.
The month of May also recorded 36,991 participants, while the month of June recorded 13,681 participants, while the month of July recorded 23,152 participants, while the number reached more than 7,265 until August 9, according to the ministry's data reviewed on Thursday by public service TV Al Mamlaka.
According to the data, the visits were distributed in several areas, including: um Qais, Jerash, Amman, Karak, Al Maghtas, Ajloun, Salt, Petra and Wadi Rum.
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities recently announced the launch of a new package of trips to the programme in order to stimulate tourism in the city of Petra, by allocating "overnight" trips in the city.
The Ministry stated that the launch of this package, which is estimated at JD1.5 million from the programme's budget.
The programme comes within the framework of its efforts to enhance tourism in the city of Petra, empower local communities, and expand the base of beneficiaries of the programme in line with the developments in the tourism sector.
The "Urdun Jannah" programme, implemented by the Ministry and the Tourism Promotion Authority in partnership with the tourism sector, aims to provide trips at subsidised prices that include transportation, accommodation and tourist guidance.
This programme contributes to supporting the local economy and stimulating local communities, in addition to consolidating the concept of tourism as part of the lifestyle of the Jordanian citizen.
The Cabinet recently decided to cover the cost of the trips that will be organised for participants under the "Urdun Jannah" programme until December 13, 2025, and to exempt Jordanian citizens from entry fees to archaeological sites, and exempting persons with disabilities from the cost of the trip.
It is noteworthy that during the year 2024, the "Urdun Jannah" programme witnessed the participation of about 310 thousand people, Al Mamlaka TV repored.
