President Donald Trump convened a high-level policy session at the White House on Wednesday to review the ongoing Gaza war, joined by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Jared Kushner, his son-in-law and former Middle East envoy, a senior administration official confirmed.
The meeting brought together Trump, top aides, Blair, and Kushner to examine a wide range of issues tied to the conflict, including expanding humanitarian food aid, efforts to secure the release of hostages, and planning for Gaza’s post-war future.
The official stressed to Reuters that it was "simply a policy meeting," describing it as the type of session Trump and his team frequently hold.
Kushner, who played a central role in Middle East policy during Trump’s first term, returned to the table alongside Blair, who has long been active in the region since his premiership during the Iraq war.
Trump’s current special envoy, Steve Witkoff, hinted at the meeting a day earlier on Fox News. "It is a very comprehensive plan we are putting together on the next day (in Gaza) and many people are going to see how robust it is and how well meaning it is and it reflects President Trump's humanitarian motives here," Witkoff said.
The gathering comes seven months into Trump’s second term, a period marked by the president’s campaign promise to swiftly end the war. That pledge has yet to materialize. Although his tenure began with a ceasefire that held for two months, 'Israeli' airstrikes on March 18 killed around 400 Palestinians, reigniting heavy fighting.
Since then, conditions inside Gaza have worsened dramatically. Disturbing images of malnourished children and widespread starvation have fueled international outrage and sharpened criticism of 'Israel’s' conduct.
“President Trump has been clear that he wants the war to end, and he wants peace and prosperity for everyone in the region. The White House has nothing additional to share on the meeting at this time," a second administration official said.
