AMMAN — Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany Reem Alabali-Radovan visited the agency’s facilities for Palestine Refugees in Marka Camp near Amman.
The minister was welcomed in the camp by UNRWA Deputy Commissioner-General Natalie Boucly, according to an UNRWA statement.
Alabali-Radovan showed “deep” interest in UNRWA’s essential education, health, and relief services, which support nearly 68,000 residents in Marka camp to provide a dignified life with opportunities and hope.
As a part of the visit, she also engaged directly with refugees to better understand their daily challenges, where she expressed her concern for the well-being of Palestine Refugees.
The longstanding support of Germany, one of UNRWA’s key partners, has been pivotal in safeguarding essential services for Palestine Refugees in Jordan and across the region—particularly at a time when the agency is facing the most acute financial crises in its history, threatening its ability to maintain operations beyond September 2025.
“Throughout UNRWA’s 75-year history, Germany has been a committed partner. At this critical moment, threatening the agency’s continued existence amid regional conflict and instability, we appeal to Germany to reaffirm its commitment to UNRWA and its services to Palestine Refugees,” said Director of UNRWA Affairs in Jordan Olaf Becker.
“We are sincerely grateful to Minister Alabali-Radovan for prioritising this visit and for her personal engagement with Palestine Refugees. Her presence today shows her concern to protecting the rights and dignity of one of the region’s most vulnerable communities,” Becker added.
