AMMAN — Commander of the United Nations Organisation Stabilisation Mission in Congo (MONUSCO), Lieutenant General Ulisses de Mesquita Gomes, on Tuesday visited the Jordanian operations camp at Mavivi Airport in Congo, where he was received by the force commander.
Gomes, accompanied by Commander of the Brazilian Amazon Military Command Lieutenant General Luiz Gonzaga, was briefed on the operational duties and missions carried out by the force, as well as its level of readiness and preparedness to perform tasks within its area of responsibility.
The UN mission commander also observed a joint operational exercise involving the Jordanian-Congolese Helicopter Unit/2, Brazilian special forces, Guatemalan special forces and Kenyan special forces.
The drill reflected a high level of professionalism, combat readiness and field coordination among the participating forces, in addition to rapid response capabilities and precision in carrying out duties in a scenario simulating potential threats within the area of responsibility, according to Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF).
At the end of the visit, Gomes praised the distinguished performance, discipline and operational readiness shown by the Jordanian force and the participating UN forces.
He also commended their field capabilities and professionalism in carrying out joint peacekeeping missions.
