Foreign Ministry condemns Israeli assaults on Christians in Jerusalem

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry has “strongly” condemned ongoing Israeli assaults against Christians in Jerusalem, most recently the freezing of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate’s bank accounts, describing the move as a “blatant” violation of the historical and legal status quo in the occupied city’s holy sites.

In a statement on Saturday, the ministry’s spokesperson Sufian Qudah reaffirmed the Kingdom’s rejection of Israel’s illegal measures and stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over the West Bank or its Arab, Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Qudah renewed Jordan’s call on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and compel Israel to “immediately” stop the aggression on Gaza and end its illegal unilateral measures in the occupied West Bank.

He also called for pressuring Israel to end its violations against Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites, and uphold the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, mainly their right to an independent state of their own on their national soil, the statement said.
