AMMAN — Jordan on Thursday welcomed the announcement by US President Donald Trump of a ceasefire in Lebanon, describing it as a “positive step towards de-escalation and restoring stability.”

 

The Foreign Ministry also commended the “significant” role played by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, the Lebanese government headed by Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, and Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri in supporting efforts to reach the ceasefire.

 

In a statement on Thursday, the ministry reaffirmed Jordan’s “firm” support for the Lebanese state in asserting its sovereignty over all its territory and restricting arms to state authority, stressing the importance of reactivating national institutions and advancing reform measures.

 

It also reiterated support for Lebanon’s efforts to protect its resources and preserve its security, unity and territorial integrity.
