Police probe death of woman found buried in Amman

AMMAN – Police are investigating the death of a woman who was found buried in a hole in a deserted area in Amman, official sources said on Monday.

“We received information that a woman was buried in a three-meter hole,” Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

A team of detectives and forensic experts were summoned to the area to investigate the incident, Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

The victim’s body was transferred to the National Institute for Forensic Medicine for an autopsy, a senior medical source said.

“An autopsy will be performed on the woman to determine the cause of death,” the senior medical source told The Jordan Times.

The source added from initial examination of the body, “the woman was most probably murdered because forensic experts detected some stab wounds to parts of her body”.

The senior medical source added that the autopsy will reveal the cause of death.

The Criminal Court prosecutor is currently supervising the investigations, an official source said.

The official source added that investigators are questioning people in the area and reviewing missing persons reports to try to determine the victim’s identity.
