AMMAN — Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) President Khalil Haj Tawfiq and Syrian Chargé d’Affaires in Jordan Ihsan Rumman on Thursday discussed measures to boost economic and trade cooperation and facilitate transport and transit movement between Jordan and Syria.

 

Haj Tawfiq stressed the need for joint efforts to strengthen economic ties, address existing obstacles and translate mutual understandings into concrete projects and programmes, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

 

He said economic relations with Syria should maintain their “exceptional” nature, given the two countries’ historical ties and shared interests, and called for activating signed bilateral agreements in key sectors, including food security, information technology, agriculture, contracting, consultancy, transport and infrastructure.

 

Haj Tawfiq also said the ACC is ready to provide training and qualification services requested by the Syrian side.

 

Rumman, for his part, expressed the Syrian embassy’s readiness to cooperate with the ACC and support initiatives aimed at strengthening economic ties.

 

He said that Syria is open to broad economic cooperation with Jordan and commended His Majesty King Abdullah’s efforts to support Syria in international forums.

 

Rumman also highlighted Jordan’s efforts to provide training and human resources development for Syrian personnel, saying Syria seeks to benefit from Jordan’s administrative expertise and economic regulatory frameworks while strengthening ties between the two countries' business communities.
