The Jordan Times

AMMAN — The EU and its member states will continue supporting Jordan's efforts to combat extremism and terrorism, EU Ambassador to Jordan Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas said on Saturday.

Chatzisavas made the remarks during a high-level, closed-door dialogue organised by the Politics and Society Institute (PSI) and the Mohammad Hammouri Cultural Forum for Cultural Development, attended by former prime ministers, senators, MPs, academics, journalists and researchers, according to a PSI statement.

He offered condolences to Jordan and the families of the victims of the attack on St. George's Greek Orthodox Church in Hmoud village, Karak Governorate on October 23.

He said that the attack went beyond Jordan's borders in its impact, describing the targeting of innocent people as an assault on shared human values.

The ambassador reiterated the EU's commitment to supporting Jordan's capacity to counter extremism and terrorism, highlighting the partnership between the two sides and Jordan's role in promoting regional security and stability.

Chatzisavas also highlighted the Jordan-EU Investment Conference, scheduled for November at the Dead Sea under the patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah, with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expected to attend.

He said the conference aims to turn the strategic partnership into investment opportunities by bringing together investors, companies and financial institutions. Priority areas include technology, energy, high-value industries, logistics, infrastructure and water security.

The conference is also expected to support job creation, knowledge and technology transfer and the competitiveness of the Jordanian economy.

The dialogue examined the future of Jordan-EU relations amid political and security developments across the region, including their implications for existing partnerships and prospects for cooperation.

Participants also discussed Jordan's position in the evolving regional landscape, the EU's role in responding to political and security developments and the need to reassess regional relations in light of their implications for security and stability.
