US President Donald Trump described the humanitarian situation in Gaza as “very dire,” emphasizing the urgent need to provide food for the population.
“We hope food reaches those in need in Gaza,” Trump said in remarks to reporters.
He added that he had spoken with 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and that plans were being developed to address the situation. Trump also said he had spoken with the President of the European Commission, who pledged to contribute to humanitarian efforts.
Regarding Hamas, Trump said negotiations had become increasingly difficult, noting that the group was unwilling to release the remaining captives. He claimed US intelligence sometimes knows their whereabouts but refrains from launching attacks for fear of harming them.
Trump also announced that the United States would help establish food centers in Gaza and fund the initiative, with other countries expected to join. “People in Gaza can see food just miles away, but they cannot reach it,” he said.
He concluded by assuring that these food distribution centers would operate without restrictions to ensure aid reaches those in need.
