AMMAN — Around 1.6 million students across Jordan head back to classrooms on Sunday, marking the official start of the 2025/2026 academic year.
The Ministry of Education spokesperson Mahmoud Hayassat told Al Rai newspaper that “all preparations” have been made to receive students, including the distribution of textbooks, readiness of classrooms and furniture, and the reassignment of teaching staff.
Approximately 7,843 schools will welcome students on Sunday, he said, including those operated by the Ministry of Education, private institutions, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), and military-culture schools.
Official figures show 1,139,784 female students and 1,168,464 male students are enrolled this year. The total number of teachers has reached 163,425, while administrative staff stands at 43,065 across all education sectors.
Hayassat said that 30 new public schools have opened this year in various regions, as part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to expand educational services and improve the learning environment.
