AMMAN — The Cabinet, during a session chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Sunday, approved a project to install solar photovoltaic systems connected to the national electricity grid for 1,000 homes owned by persons with disabilities or their families across the Kingdom.

The five-year initiative, running from 2026 to 2030, carries an estimated cost of JD 1.5 million. A technical committee, including representatives from the ministries of Energy, Social Development, and the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, would set clear criteria and eligibility standards for the project, according to a Prime Ministry statement.

In the agricultural sector, the Cabinet approved the connection of electricity to Alfiyya Agricultural Investments’ production project in the Madoura area of Ma’an Governorate. Spanning nearly 7,000 dunums, the project would cultivate crops vital for livestock breeders and plant fruit trees, including citrus. Alfiyya aims to strengthen food security, promote sustainable agricultural development, and create local employment opportunities.

The Cabinet also approved recommendations to enhance public cleanliness nationwide, including identifying alternative locations for informal trades and crafts currently scattered at city entrances and major roads.

The Ministry of Finance was tasked with incorporating cleanliness funding into the Ministry of Local Administration’s budget to streamline planning and optimise resources. Authorities, including the ministries of Environment, Education, Higher Education, Social Development, and Youth, were urged to promote volunteer initiatives, raise awareness, and enforce laws to ensure sustainable public hygiene and environmental protection.

In the energy sector, the Cabinet approved the 2025 regulations for the extraction, mining, and processing of nuclear materials. The regulations set safety and operational standards, require official licenses from the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission for all nuclear activities, and establish comprehensive oversight for worker safety, public health, and environmental protection. The framework reinforces transparency, accountability, and Jordan’s adherence to international nuclear standards.

In the tourism sector, amendments to the 2025 Jordanian Association of Travel and Tourism Offices and Companies regulations were approved. Amendments include restructuring the association’s board based on new classifications, defining membership requirements, organising the general assembly, and authorising the creation of a cooperative fund for members.

These measures reflect the government’s ongoing efforts to advance sustainable development, enhance public services, and strengthen Jordan’s economic and social infrastructure, according to the statement.
