Prime minister, Bahraini Shura Council chairman talk cooperation

AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Wednesday in Amman held talks with Chairman of the Bahraini Shura Council Ali Al Saleh over the importance of sustaining coordination and consultation between the two countries.

Hassan and Saleh also reviewed various issues of mutual interest, according to a Prime Ministry statement.

Discussions highlighted the “deep” relations between the two countries, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah and Bahraini King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa.

Also on Wednesday, Senate President Faisal Fayez met with Saleh, and his accompanying delegation, who is currently visiting the Kingdom upon an official invitation from the Senate, to discuss ways to enhance relations between the two countries, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Fayez stressed that King Abdullah and King Hamad are keen to further develop these relations through continuous coordination on issues of mutual concern.

He underlined that relations between the two kingdoms go beyond mutual interests and are based on shared destiny and common security, noting that the security and stability of the Gulf region constitute an integral part of Jordan’s national security.

He reiterated Jordan’s rejection of any interference in Bahrain’s internal affairs or in the affairs of Gulf states in general.

Fayez said that the Arab world faces major political, security and economic challenges, which require activating joint Arab action.

He highlighted the significant responsibility of parliaments in working alongside executive authorities to address these challenges, stressing the need for unified parliamentary efforts and an integrated Arab economic vision, including the establishment of an economic union.

He reiterated Jordan’s firm position on the Palestinian cause, rejecting any forced displacement of Palestinians or any solutions that undermine Jordan’s national interests or the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Fayez called on Bahraini investors to benefit from opportunities in Jordan’s mining, energy, water, public transport and tourism sectors, while expressing appreciation for Bahrain’s continued support for Jordan and its efforts to achieve regional peace.

For his part, Saleh stressed that Bahraini-Jordanian relations are “historic and well-established”, referring to ongoing coordination across various levels.

He highlighted the centrality of the Palestinian cause and voiced hope following the recent UN Security Council resolution on Gaza.

Both sides reaffirmed the importance of expanding cooperation across all sectors, increasing parliamentary exchanges, and continuing to defend the rights of the Palestinian people, including the establishment of their independent state on the pre-1967 lines with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Meanwhile, Lower House Speaker Mazen Qadi met with Saleh and his accompanying delegation to discuss parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and ways to enhance bilateral relations.

During the meeting, Qadi and Saleh reviewed mechanisms to boost parliamentary cooperation, emphasising the importance of exchanging legislative and parliamentary expertise and expanding joint coordination at regional and international forums, particularly given the challenges facing the region that require unified Arab positions.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi also met with Saleh over means to develop ties between the two kingdoms, where Safadi stressed the significance of sustaining coordination between Amman and Manama regarding various issues of mutual interest, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
