AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Wednesday charged a man with double murder in connection with the alleged killing of his relative and his son in Amman a day earlier, official sources said.
The prosecutor also charged the suspect with attempting to murder the victim’s wife in Abu Nseir neighbourhood, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.
“The suspect turned himself in and investigators seized a weapon that was allegedly used in the incident,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
The weapon was sent to the Forensic and Laboratories Department for a ballistic match, a second source said.
The victim’s wife was rushed to a nearby hospital and listed in critical condition, according to the police official.
The police official did not reveal any further details regarding the incident, adding that investigations are ongoing in the case.
The suspect was ordered detained at a correctional and rehabilitation centre for 15 days pending further investigation, according to Sartawi.
Social media users identified the victims as former MP Musa Abu Sweilem, who served in the 17th Lower House of Parliament for Amman’s Fifth District and his son Ayman.
They also identified the suspect as the cousin of the victims.
