Jordan, Europol sign agreement to combat cross-border crime

The Jordan Times

The agreement established a formal legal framework for cooperation and the exchange of expertise between Europol and Jordanian law enforcement agencies.

It also facilitated joint action in key areas, including migrant smuggling, drug trafficking, money laundering, and firearms trafficking, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The arrangement also enables the exchange of specialised knowledge, participation in joint training activities and the provision of advice and support in individual criminal investigations.

As part of the agreement, the PSD would designate a national contact point to streamline coordination between Europol and Jordanian law enforcement entities. The arrangement also allows for the appointment of a liaison officer to Europol, who would join a network of liaison offices comprising law enforcement representatives from over 50 countries.

With the arrangement now in effect, the EU and Jordan are set to deepen their cooperation in addressing cross-border crime, strengthening Europol’s ties with a key regional partner in the Middle East, Petra reported.

Europol Executive Director Catherine De Bolle described the signing as “a pivotal step in our joint efforts to tackle the challenges and criminal threats facing both the EU, its member states, and Jordan.”
