Prime minister, Lebanese counterpart discuss regional developments

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Tuesday held talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, who is on an official visit to Jordan, focusing on regional developments and bilateral relations.

Hassan stressed that the reality on the ground contradicts the illusion of a so-called “greater Israel,” describing Israel instead as “rejected, isolated, warring, and besieged” due to its brutal and extremist policies, according to a Prime Ministry statement.

“We hear of visions and proposals aimed at perpetuating endless war, such as the illusions of a ‘greater Israel’ promoted by extremist Israeli politicians,” Hassan said. “But reality shows policies that only deepen hatred and resentment through continued massacres, crimes that the peoples of the region and the world will not forgive.”

The prime minister underlined that the region faces two starkly different projects: “The first, which we pursue, seeks to extend state sovereignty, establish stability, and enable people to work towards prosperity and resilience. The second, driven by extremist agendas, seeks to perpetuate and expand conflicts, fueling wars that only intensify hatred.”

Hassan also reiterated that His Majesty King Abdullah’s directives consistently emphasise Jordan’s unwavering support for Lebanon, its sovereignty, security, stability, and prosperity, alongside the strengthening of state institutions across all Lebanese territories, in close cooperation with the Lebanese government.

The Prime Minister also emphasised the urgent need to end the war in Gaza, stop Israeli attacks in the West Bank, and contain the dangerous regional escalation, holding Israel fully accountable, both legally and morally, for the collapse of humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza.

“We are witnessing a daily tragedy in Gaza, marked by starvation, killings, and massacres,” he said, stressing the importance of opening all crossings to deliver critical aid to the people and children of Gaza.

He added that Jordan is moving forward with its comprehensive modernisation vision while supporting Lebanon and Syria in their efforts to strengthen state sovereignty, build institutions, and enhance internal unity, steps seen as key to reinforcing Arab cooperation and expanding opportunities for regional nations.

Hassan and Salam reiterated the importance of supporting Syria, “standing with it to secure stability and prosperity for its people, as a cornerstone of regional security and development.”
