Gov't activates social protection mechanisms for weather-affected families

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Tuesday directed the ministries of social development, awqaf and Islamic affairs, and agriculture, in coordination with the Prime Ministry, to activate social protection mechanisms to assist those affected by recent weather conditions across several governorates.

Field teams from the relevant ministries have begun identifying affected households, families, and individuals, including farmers and homeowners, across the Kingdom.

Aid distribution for eligible beneficiaries, based on established criteria and mechanisms, will commence on Wednesday in Karak governorate, the Prime Ministry said in a statement. The Prime Ministry added that it will cover any additional expenses the ministries are unable to meet, ensuring that all eligible individuals receive the necessary compensation.

Jordan was hit last week by heavy rainfall and strong winds, leading to flooding, property damage, and significant agricultural losses in southern and central governorates. Numerous roads and residential areas were affected, and six dams across the Kingdom reached full storage capacity.
