AMMAN — Transport Minister Nidal Qatamin on Monday chaired a meeting to examine the development of a multimodal transport system in the Petra District, as part of ongoing efforts to upgrade tourism transport services in the area.

The meeting brought together Transport Ministry Secretary-General Fares Abu Diyeh, Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Dhaifallah Al Farajat, Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority Chairman Fares Breizat and representatives of concerned authorities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.

Qatamin underscored the importance of studying multimodal transport options as a tool to support tourism, noting that modern transport solutions could ease visitor access to Petra, enhance the overall experience, and align with the protection requirements of the archaeological site. Such solutions would also improve logistics linked to visitor flows and support services, he added.

Discussions covered technical and regulatory aspects, safety requirements, proposed operating mechanisms and coordination arrangements between the concerned bodies, with the aim of providing specialised transport services in line with international standards.

Participants also reviewed opportunities for integrating multimodal transport with tourism services and related logistics, as well as proposed timelines and next steps for studies and procedures.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Petra’s position as a major global attraction by establishing an integrated multimodal transport and logistics system that improves the visitor experience and contributes to the national economy.
