Jordan condemns Knesset’s vote to impose Israeli sovereignty over occupied West Bank

The Jordan Times

AMMAN — Jordan on Wednesday condemned the Knesset’s vote endorsing Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and Jordan Valley, as a “blatant violation of international law and a serious blow to the two-state solution.”

A Foreign Ministry statement reaffirmed that Israel has no sovereignty over any part of the occupied Palestinian territories.

The ministry emphasised that such actions undermine the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent, sovereign state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Sufian Qudah, the ministry’s spokesperson, reiterated the Kingdom’s rejection and denouncement of any Israeli attempts to impose control over the West Bank.

He noted that these actions constitute clear violations of international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli measures aimed at altering the demographic composition, identity, and legal status of the occupied Palestinian territory since 1967, including East Jerusalem.

He also cited the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which confirmed the illegality of the Israeli occupation, including the construction of settlements and the annexation of West Bank land.

Qudah warned against the continuation of unilateral Israeli policies, stressing that all Israeli actions in the West Bank are “illegal and have no legal standing.”

He called on the international community to shoulder its legal and moral responsibilities and exercise pressure on Israel to “immediately” cease its aggression on Gaza and its dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank, provide protection for the Palestinian people, and to uphold their legitimate right to establish an independent state on their national soil.

Israeli lawmakers vote 71-13 in favour of a non-binding motion to annex the occupied West Bank to Israel.

According to Israeli media, the motion described Judea, Samaria and the Jordan Valley as “an inseparable part of the historical homeland of the Jewish people” and calls for applying Israeli sovereignty to these areas.”
