AMMAN — The Social Security Corporation (SSC) on Wednesday announced that the number of active subscribers exceeded 1.655 million, including around 1.4 million Jordanians and about 255,000 of other nationalities.

The corporation marked International Labour Day, observed annually on May 1, by stressing the need to ensure social protection for all workers and provide a safe working environment, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

SSC said that social security remains a key pillar of protection, offering income security for workers and their families in cases of old age, disability, death, unemployment, maternity, and work injuries.

SSC added that the total number of retirees reached 404,000, including more than 274,000 active retirees.

The number of active female retirees stood at around 66,455.

Beneficiaries entitled to active pension shares reached nearly 175,000, bringing the total number of active retirees and beneficiaries to over 449,000.

The corporation stressed the need for all establishments to register their workers under the Social Security Law for full employment periods and actual wages, regardless of workforce size, to ensure workers receive pension benefit.

On maternity insurance, SSC said that more than 129,000 cases have benefited, covering around 88,258 insured women.

SSC added that the Riaya (care) programme continues to expand support for childcare, either through nurseries or home care, benefiting about 29,500 insured women.

The data showed that increasing beneficiaries of unemployment insurance exceeded 355,644, with more than 1.207 million disbursements.

SSC added that around 582,345 insured individuals benefited from withdrawals from their savings accounts for education and medical purposes, with more than 858,000 disbursements.

The corporation also stressed the importance of work injury insurance, noting that it provides protection from the first day of employment.

SSC said that it has handled more than 534,000 work injury cases since its establishment, calling on employers to comply with occupational safety and health standards.

SSC urged workers to ensure they are covered under the Social Security Law and to contact the unified call centre 117117 or the national call centre 065008080 for inquiries and complaints.
