AMMAN — The 12th Regional Conference of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in the Middle East and North Africa opened in Beirut on Friday in the presence of Lebanese President Gen. Joseph Aoun.

 

The conference, hosted by the Lebanese Red Cross in cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, brings together regional leaders from national societies alongside representatives from the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organisation.

 

In his opening address, President Aoun praised the dedication of humanitarian workers and volunteers who serve during crises without discrimination, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

 

Representing Jordan, President of the Jordan Red Crescent Society Mohammad Hadid highlighted the importance of reviewing the Amman Declaration and measuring regional progress in emergency preparedness, locally led response, and movement coordination.

 

Hadid stressed that localising humanitarian action must translate into leadership rather than mere execution, enabling national societies to shape priorities and allocate resources effectively to meet community needs.

 

The periodic conference serves as a “key” platform for MENA humanitarian leadership to evaluate regional challenges and formulate joint commitments.
