AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez on Saturday met with US Congressman Joe Wilson, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, to discuss Jordanian-American relations, ways to strengthen cooperation across sectors, and regional developments, particularly the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

Fayez emphasised the strength of Jordan-US relations, noting Jordan’s commitment to advancing cooperation that serves shared interests and fosters economic and investment partnerships, according to Al Mamlaka TV.

He also highlighted the longstanding friendship between the two countries, grounded in mutual respect, collaboration, and common goals, and expressed appreciation for US economic and financial support, which has helped Jordan address challenges arising from regional instability, including hosting some 1.3 million Syrian refugees.

“Jordan is a pillar of regional stability, and any attempts to undermine the Kingdom’s security would have serious repercussions for the wider region,” Fayez said. He also outlined His Majesty King Abdullah’s ongoing efforts to achieve regional peace, secure a ceasefire in Gaza, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged Strip, stressing that lasting stability requires the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in line with the two-state solution and international legitimacy.

Fayez urged the US administration to press Israel to stop its aggression in Gaza and accept ceasefire proposals from mediators, warning that continued expansionist policies would fuel further violence and instability.

He also condemned recent statements by Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and extremist ministers regarding the so-called “greater Israel” project, which envisions territories on both sides of the Jordan River as part of Israel. Fayez reaffirmed Jordan’s rejection of any settlement schemes that threaten its national interests.

Citing King Abdullah’s “three no’s”- no to an alternative homeland, no to settlement, and no to forced displacement, Fayez stressed that the Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem remains a red line.

He denounced ongoing Israeli attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from the occupied West Bank and Gaza, calling on the US and the international community to support King Abdullah’s efforts to create a political horizon for a just resolution to the Palestinian cause and an end to the cycle of violence.

Congressman Wilson praised the strong friendship and cooperation between Jordan and the United States and commended King Abdullah’s pivotal role in seeking to resolve regional conflicts.
