AMMAN — The Cabinet, during a session chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Sunday, approved the validating reasons for a draft bylaw on civil and professional liability insurance for engineering offices and companies for 2025, to be referred to the Legislation and Opinion Bureau for the necessary constitutional procedures.

The draft bylaw aims to protect engineering offices and companies against financial and legal liabilities arising from engineering work. It proposes the establishment of a union-based insurance umbrella to cover the activities of engineering offices, according to a Prime Ministry statement.

The bylaw also aims to meet the requirements of local and international tenders and to create new opportunities for engineering work, both now and in the future. The bylaw is expected to safeguard engineering offices, project owners, and affected parties by ensuring that engineering works approved by the syndicate are adequately covered, the statement read.

The Cabinet also extended a previous decision granting employees who had received dual salaries, whether from holding two positions or working outside official hours, a 50 per cent exemption from amounts owed. Beneficiaries must settle the remaining balance by the end of 2025.

On the international front, the Cabinet approved a draft law validating the 2025 extradition treaty between Jordan and Spain. The treaty aims to bolster cooperation in combating crime, preventing impunity, and facilitating extradition in accordance with constitutional principles.

The Cabinet also endorsed an agreement with Russia on the mutual exemption of visa requirements for citizens of both countries, a move intended to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation to serve common interests, the statement read.
