AMMAN — Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply Secretary-General Dana Alzoubi on Sunday said that the launch of the "Digital Trade in the South Mediterranean" project marks a strategic step toward building an integrated digital trade ecosystem that promotes sustainable economic growth and keeps pace with global economic shifts.
The remarks were made during the regional project’s launch ceremony, attended by German Ambassador to Jordan Bertram von Moltke, GIZ Jordan Country Director Lorenz Petersen, and Thibaut Moyer, representative of the European Union.
Alzoubi noted that the project embodies a shared regional vision for economic integration driven by digital transformation.
It reflects a collective commitment to enhancing the readiness of national economies to integrate into the global digital trade system, with support from the EU and the German government, and implementation by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The secretary-general explained that the project is an extension of Jordan’s national path toward developing digital trade and will be implemented in Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia, while facilitating knowledge exchange with Libya, Lebanon, Palestine, and Algeria.
She outlined the project's five key priorities, which include developing digital trade strategies, enhancing digital tools, facilitating e-commerce, empowering the private sector, and strengthening knowledge exchange.
Alzoubi highlighted that Jordan has made significant progress during the first phase of the National E-commerce Strategy (2023-2025).
This progress includes developing legislation, strengthening institutional frameworks, improving the logistics environment, and streamlining procedures for shipping and low-value parcels.
The ministry is also working to support small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in integrating into the digital economy by developing e-commerce platforms and implementing specialised training programmes.
Notable initiatives include the EcomConnect programme, which has benefited numerous companies and entrepreneurs, alongside the launch of supporting initiatives such as the Click-Business programme.
