AMMAN — Wednesday marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Jordan and Mexico. To mark this occasion, the Embassy of Mexico in Amman hosted an official reception featuring the opening of the exhibition “Frida Through the Eyes of Young Jordanian Artists.”
The exhibition, a joint initiative between Yarmouk University and the embassy, showcases 77 artworks inspired by Frida Kahlo, the iconic Mexican painter, created by more than 70 young Jordanian artists, most of them female students from the university’s Faculty of Fine Arts, according to a statement from the embassy.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Nancy Namrouqa attended the commemoration representing the prime minister, and Ambassador Khalid Kadi, Director General for the Americas of the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Kadi delivered a message at the ceremony, in which he underscored the historic friendship between Mexico and Jordan and reaffirmed both nations’ commitment to advancing peace and prosperity.
In his address, Jacob Prado, Ambassador of Mexico to Jordan, emphasised that beyond the “remarkable growth in trade and the solid institutional framework developed by the two countries, people-to-people connections are the drivers behind the vitality of the Jordan-Mexico relations. “
He noted that over the past decade alone, one hundred thousand Mexican tourists have come to visit Jordan. Another example he mentioned is the several agreements that have been formalized between Jordanian and Mexican universities, encompassing scientific research in different areas, “but more significantly, student and faculty exchange programs that are building bridges of understanding and friendship for generations to come”—the ambassador said.
The event brought together government officials, diplomats, the young artist that participated in the exhibition, media representatives, academics, business leaders, members of the Jordanian-Mexican Friendship Association, the Mexican community, and friends of Mexico.
